Cannabis Sativa
Cannabis Sativa

Cannabis Sativa originates from lands near to the equator (approximately 0 to 30 degrees north latitude) such as Thailand. Cannabis Sativa tends to be tall (6 to a massive 20 feet (plants this big are very rare), with long internode spacing (internodes are the points between branching), loose flowers and long thin leaves with many leaflets. As it originates near the equator it flowers when the days are still quite long and takes a very long time to mature. When grown at lower (or higher) latitudes it may never reach full maturity. Cannabis Sativa contains a higher ratio of THC to CBD. THCs and CBDs are the major psychoactive chemical substances in marijuana. THC produces a "cerebral" high, while CBD produces a groggy "drugged" effect. This ratio is desirable in the production of good drug cannabis, however, Cannabis Sativa does not have a very high resin content (the site of drug accumulation). Due to it's tall stature and high light requirements Cannabis Sativa is not suitable for growing indoors (though crossbreeds can be), unless the grower has high light levels and a lot of vertical space. It does grow very well outdoors though, with most of the tropical and sub-tropical regions of our globe being suitable for proper maturation. A good example of a Cannabis Sativa strain is "Thai Budda".
